Between the frames, the most common British practice is revealed with a crank axle and the left hand side connecting rod nearest the camera. in the middle are the four eccentrics for the Stephenson valve gear and the right hand side connecting rod furthest from the camera. Notice the bar frames - typically used by the builders Bury, Curtis and Kennedy.

Looking towards the front of the loco, the right hand side connecting rod is nearest the camera. Notice how the rod is forked to clear the motion bracket that supports the ends of the slide bars. In the middle are the forward and reverse eccentric rods that drive the valves.
