The loco's rolling chassis awaiting the return of the boiler in May 2017 as its overhaul continues. The work has involved making a new cylinder block as the original had suffered cracking that was beyond repair.

On 16th August 1969 the loco was under restoration in the unique octagonal roundhouse at Thornaby depot. The building has long been demolished, and the rest of the depot has followed it into oblivion.

With a full tender, 2392 stands behind 29 at Grosmont depot in November 1973. Behind the locos is the (then) new repair shed, still incomplete at the time.

Restored in full North Eastern freight livery, the class P3 runs through Heighington on 31st August 1975 in the Cavalcade of locomotives marking the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Stockton & Darlington Railway.

Photographed early one morning of an Autumn Gala day, 2392 starts from Grosmont shed with the cylinder drain cocks open. At the time it was running in North Eastern Railway lined black livery, and very smart, too!

Class J27 No.2392 stands on display at Locomotion, Shildon on 24th May 2025. Three locos from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, including Class Q6 63395 in the background, were displayed for a week as part of the 'Celebrating Railway Heritage' event, itself part of the Rail 200 series of events celebrating the 200th anniversary of opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway, whose route runs past Locomotion museum
