Running precariously perched on a mountainside shelf, 440.008 hauls its little train up the mountainside on the 1 in 28 gradient.

Like all mountain railways there are stiff climbs and deep valleys to cross. 440.008 runs onto a viaduct in January 2012.

A stunning photo of 440.008 in 2012. Quite prophetic, too, as this was in the sunset of the Eritrean Railway which was reported to be closed in 2017. Will the trains ever run again?
