Wonder about the steam piston diameter and travel for the Oregon Pony. Other references show this to be 9 inches dia x 18 inches. The Oregon Pony was sold the David Hewes at the Steam Paddy Company in San Francisco CA in 1866. It was retired from that duty in 1873 and was stored until 1904, then restored after a warehouse fire and given to Oregon for the 1905 Lewis and Clark Exposition.

Per numerous newspaper ads from the 1860s, the San Francisco company went by the name Vulcan Iron Works. It was not unusual in the 19th century for companies in different cities to adopt the same name even though they were unrelated.

Builder should be Vulcan Iron Foundry - a different company from the Vulcan Iron Works (this mistake has been repeated in several books). The Vulcan Foundry was located in San Francisco, while the Vulcan Iron Works was located in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
