In service with Western Australia Government Railway in 1897. Withdrawn in 1970. Preserved in Merredin. At first displayed alongside the main road. Later moved into the old railway station museum where it can be seen today. 117 is also visible from any passing passenger train.

The building of a standard gauge line from Kalgoolie to Perth was completed in 1968. Also included was a new railway station at Merredin, a short walk from the 42 inch gauge station. The old station became a railway museum. There is plenty to see at this museum. The 95 lever signal box built on stilts, gives a clear view in both directions. A short walk away is also an excellent military museum.
