The Cambrian Railways operated, as the name suggests, in Wales, but the richest pickings were in the parts of Wales that the Cambrian didn't serve. This left the Cambrian running through sparsely populated rural areas. A large part of the system was swept away in the 1960s, and the Cambrian Railway Society is devoted to restoring a small part of the former Cambrian Railways from the system's old headquarters in Oswestry.

Why has this loco been called 'Oliver Veltom'?

He was, in the British Railways era, the District Traffic Superintendent for the Cambrian area in the 1950s and the naming of the loco reflects his work in the old Cambrian Railways area.
