As of 12th November 2015, the loco has moved to a new preservation scheme, the Vale of Berkeley Railway. The railway is a branch line in Gloucestershire which formerly crossed the River Severn until, that is the railway bridge was brought down in 1960 when it was hit by two barges, bringing down two spans of the bridge.

After the rest of the bridge was demolished, the line, part of the former Severn and Wye Railway terminated at Sharpness docks. The railway has the use of the former diesel loco shed at Sharpness, which is to be their locomotive depot. This is where the Black Five is to be restored. No timetable yet exists for this and it is difficult to predict how long jobs like this one will take.

In a new development for this shell of a locomotive, a purchase is being negotiated with the owners, Glamorgan Council. If it comes off, the loco will move to the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway for restoration.

Apparently many of the missing parts have been obtained, particularly the valve gear and motion, and that a tender will be acquired from one of the remaining 8F locos in Turkey with the possibility of using the 8F boiler, although it is not identical to the class 5 boiler so will need modification.

From the photo it looks a hopeless case, but....

Part of the Barry 10 group of locos bought for a propsal for a Welsh Railway Centre which never got going.

Latest plans are for it to be cosmetically restored at Barry for the proposed Barry Rail Centre Museum. The loco has no tender.
