624 has now left Hammond and is at the location that the cosmetic restoration will take place.

As of right now, the Fort Wayne group will only be performing a cosmetic restoration on 624, but a future operational restoration has not been ruled out.

The Fort Wayne RR Historical Society has recently purchased/been donated the 624. It is soon to be disassembled and shipped to Ft. Wayne for a cosmetic restoration. She will be put on display at the Headwaters Junction and named "City of Hammond".

Status should be changed to restoration, a new group is planning to restore her and the acompanying boxcar and caboose, and the eventual return of the 624 to operation.

This locomotive is displayed across the street from the Hammond, IN Civic Center, and is reported to be maintained in good cosmetic condition. We'll try to get shots of this locomotive this summer.
