The ex London, Brighton & South Coast Railway A1X Class Terrier 0-6-0T No. 662 "Martello", has now been withdrawn from service and is now on display at Bressingham Steam Museum while it awaits its next overhaul.

No. 662 "Martello" has been added to the line up of visiting Southern locomotives at the Nene Valley Railway for their Southern Steam Gala on the 9th & 10th of March 2019. This will be the first time that a former London, Brighton & South Coast Railway A1X Class Terrier 0-6-0T has visited the Nene Valley Line.

662 is back in working order at Bressingham Steam Museum and has been painted in Southern Oilive Green livery.

No. 662 is currently being overhauled and could be back in service later this year.

One of several LB&SCR 'Terriers'preserved, all of them over 100 years old. Stroudley's classic Victorian tank engine, they look tiny as the coaches tower over them, but they are powerful for their size. This one was named 'Martello' by the LB&SCR. The photo shows the engine in the LB&SCR's umber livery which was introduced by Marsh. However, the locos lost their names at this point. Other liveries can be seen on the other preserved locos of the class. On locos of such longevity, there is plenty of choice. Whatever their colour, they remain a delightful feature of UK preservation
