New South Wales Government Railways number 1080 is a 50 ton wrecking crane imported to Australasia in WW2 by US Army, Numbered USATC 7504 after the devastating air raid at Darwin. Worries of damage to Australian railways saw five US Army wrecking cranes arrive in Australia. In 1947 this crane passed to New South Wales Government Railway. Being numbered 1080

Of the five US Army wrecking cranes, two passed to NSWGR. The other three were loaded on a US aircraft carrier. They are reported as lost at sea just off the Sydney Heads. Like a lot of US equipment at the end of WW2, if not sold was dumped at sea.
