This locomotive utilizes an air "motor" which differs from a steam engine, since compressed air is introduced into a chamber in lieu of combusted gasoline or diesel fuel, so the motor more closely resembles and performs more similarly to an internal combustion engine than a steam engine. Sir motors such as these were used in mining operations both in fixed and mobile applications.
