499 is now on Display overlooking the Gorge. It survived the fires in 2013, while its caboose did not.

If I was the owner pf the D&RGW I would keep the narrow gauge in service in case UP or SP bought the standard gauge

This engine has moved to Royal Gorge taking the place of 486.  Before the move, all of the parts on 499 that were not on 486 were removed for use.  She got a nice repaint and a ride on a trailer and now some public viewing.
