When built it was sold to Ashanti Goldfield Corporation and exported via Liverpool docks. Worked near Akrofuom in Ghana until a fatal accident in 1952 when it fell into a river in a storm. It was recovered in 1995 put on outside display at a museum in Obuasi at the Anglo Gold Ashanti mine. Returned to the UK in 2008.

The builders works plate has Robert Hudson Ltd. This company supplied everything to build narrow gauge railways, mostly manufacturing wagons & trackworks. The rest was bought in from local firms. They had an agreement with Hudswell Clarke who built locos to their specifications. They were delivered with Robert Hudson Ltd, on the works plate.

A recent repatriation from Ghana, this little loco is believed to be Hudswell Clarke No 1238, although No 1239 was also supplied to the firm. It worked at Obuasi mine and will be restored to operation. It is of a design that was produced for the Department of Light Railways during the First World War for use on the Western Front. It is the sole survivor in the UK of the 58 that saw service in the Great War.
