Ty51-1 was delivered to Zdunska Wola Karsznice but was soon returned to the factory for troubleshooting, defect removal and testing the prototype, being returned in the summer of 1955. It went to Piotrków Trybunalski two years later, thereupon it spent the rest of its days in Eastern Poland at Deblin, Chelm and Lublin. It was withdrawn from service at Deblin and placed in the "reserve" at Zarzeka before, in 1994 being taken to the the open-air museum in Karsznice. Finally, in 2008, it was taken from here to the Railway Museum and Roundhouse, operated by the Polish Association of Railway Enthusiasts, where it is plinthed at ul. Lowicka 1, 96-100 Skierniewice, Lódz
