Santa Fe 4-8-4 3751 was taken out of service in 2017 for her 15-year FRA exam, which is progressing very slowly. Please change status to Overhaul.

Great news! Santa Fe 3751 will be be heading back onto the mainline on June 1 when it leads a special from Los Angeles to San Diego and back. The San Bernardino Railroad Historical Society has been trying to run this excursion for about 5 years, and they finally got their wish! So if anyone loves the 3751, this is a good chance to see her as this is the route she made her final revenue run on on August 25, 1953.

A few corrections to note regarding previous comments.

1) 3751 was the first 4-8-4 on the Santa Fe, the first built by Baldwin, and is the oldest stll in existence.  The very first 4-8-4 was actually constructed for the Northern Pacific - hence why most 4-8-4s are called "northerns", though Santa Fe did not use that name.

2) SBRHS completed the 1472 service day (15 year) certification of the locomotive in 2002 prior to the Grand Canyon trip.  Please refer to our website, www.sbrhs.org, for official comments on future operations

Thanks for your interest...

3751 returned to fullerton railroad days in 2005 and hasn't attended since 2001 because it had to go under a FRA 5-year

boiler inspection after her 2002 NRHS convetion at the Grand Canyon. She is expected to attend Fullerton Railroad Days 2006

as well as excursions throuhout 2006

AT&SF No. 3751 is the first, the very first 4-8-4 built of a long line of Northerns in America.

1927 No.3751 was delivered with 73" drivers and burn coal. She was later rebuilt to have 80" drivers and were converted to burn oil.

All 4-8-4 were used in passenger service from California to Chicaco over 2,200 miles.

There are nine surviving AT&SF Northerns and 3751 is the only operational locomotive. Soon 2926 will soon be also operational in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Engine is currently located at Amtrak's Redondo Yard in Los Angeles, CA. The correct build date is 05/1927.
