This locomotive is featured in a 1935 edition of Railroad Magazine in an article about an 8 mile logging railroad complete with a double boiler sawmill that never ran! It was stricken by several tragedies, which included all the timber that did get cut getting washed away by flood, to a new owner that just bought the place suddenly committing suicide with no apparent reason, and other things. The sawmill was never fired up or anything! The engine here, was bought for the railroad, along with the 1892 built engine this association runs, but they were abandoned in the woods after only a few years. This particular engine has I think only 12 years of service on it all in all!

Notes on Bear Harbor Lumber Company #2: This locomotive, along with the other locomotives owned by Northern Counties Logging Interpretive Association (NCLIA), are located in Glendale, CA.  They are not located in either Arcata (not Arcatia as stated) or Eureka.  The other locomotives owned by NCLIA include Arcata & Mad River 2-truck Shay #7 (listed on your site as Lawson Lmbr #1), Hammond 3-truck Shay #33, Hammond 2-8-2 #15, and a homemade diesel built on the frame and running gear of a scrapped 2-truck Heisler.

Glendale is located about halfway between Arcata and Blue Lake, both northeast of Eureka.

The land that the NCLIA collection (including the locomotives) is stored on is owned by Simpson Timber Company, who leases the land to NCLIA.  However, the property is closed to the public, and NCLIA members must sign waivers to gain access to the property.  There is an on-site caretaker that enforces the "zero tollerance" admittance policy.

NCLIA does not have any holdings in Eureka, but they do operate the two small locomotives owned by California Dept. of Parks and Recreation that are located on the grounds of Fort Humboldt State Historic Park in Eureka.

According to Wes Barris' steamlocomotive.com site, this locomotive is located in Arcata. The Northern Counties Logging Museum seems to own property in both Arcata and Eureka.

This is a duplicate entry with the other entry being in Arcatia.  The two towns are right together.  One of them needs to be deleted.  I was never able to find these engines so not at all sure where they are stored.  The locals admit that they exist but refused on several occasions to tell me anything about their location.
