This locomotive HAS NOT been scrapped. The tank has been scrapped, however, the frame, running gear, cab, drivers, etc have been purchased by the Hesston Steam Museum in LaPorte, IN.

Not been scrapped! Hesston Steam Museum has plans for it. Due to height restrictions, the tank will have to be scrapped, but if they can get it, they will either turn it into a display or convert it into a conventional tank engine for regular use.

This is a fireless locomotive used in hazardous areas where sparks or fire might cause an explosion.  The large "boiler"  is actually a storage vessel for steam that was pumped into it from a stationary boiler or a convetional locomotive.  The fireless locomotive would then do its work until dropping steam pressure required a return trip to the steam source for refilling.

This locomotive was stored where indicated until at least 1987, but may no longer be there. Looking for references.
