Ferrocarril Carenero - El Guapo was a 34 mile railway built from the port of Carenero to El Guapo to carry farm produce, especially cocoa. Later passengers, for which 5 stations were built. 129 was one of three identical locomotives ordered for the opening of the railway which opened in May 1889.
