The build date for this locomotive is earlier than 1939. On the smokebox is a builders plate. This says Baldwin Locomotive extra order 153 built 1939. Baldwin Locomotive after sales service supplied every part needed to keep the locomotives operating. These were called extra orders. Everything from fire bricks, gauges. pipes etc. When a large piece of equipment had to be built, items like a new boiler would be given a new builders plate. Which clearly stated it was an extra order. Plus the date this extra item was built, so the plate refers to the boiler, not the locomotive.
