It is unclear which 52s were made broad gauge. Certainly those in the Baltic States and deeper into Russia would be 1524mm. But those in reserves near the Polish border were mostly standard gauge and all facing west ready for the invasion.

Another that was delivered directly to the DRG as Kriegslok No. 52 3539. After belonging to the SBZ for a year! It was sequestrated in 1948 by the USSR for use by it’s SŽD as No. Te-3537 and re-gauged to 1524mm. In mid 1994 it was in the Ukrainian ‘reserve’ of Rava Rus’ka, not far from the Polish border in the Lviv Region.
