SP 982 is currently owned by the Houston Junior Chamber of Commerce. It was moved again in summer of 2011 about 300 feet. 2 old houses were moved into its old spot. I have no idea why! The 2 houses were across the street a few years ago.

Texas and New Orleans was a subsidiary of the Southern Pacific and the loco was owned by T & NO. Even after acquisition, the T & NO remained as a an existing corporate entity. The paper subsidiary was due to state law requiring all railroads to have charters in the state of Texas.

Minute Maid Ball Park was built on and uses the facade to the old Union Station. The Southern Pacific Central Station was pulled down years ago to make way for I-45 construction. The Amtrak "station" is on the site of the old SP station.

Just a few complaints about #982. One, she is actually a Southern Pacific locomotive. Two, and last, the locomotive was on History Channels' "Mega Movers" showing it was moved to Minute Maid Park across the road from the sports stadium. If you could please make the change in RR name and location. Thank you!

Cosmetic Restoration (mostly paint and asbestos abatement) completed and loco moved to the front of Minute Maid Park.  The front facade of the ballpark was the headhouse of Union Station

The 982 is now slated to be moved from Hermann Park to the sports stadium [built on/around the former SP train station].

Needs a new boiler.  The front tubesheet is junk.

I visit the Houston Zoo next door to this locomotive regularly.  In two years, I have seen no sign of any work having been done on this locomotive.  My last visit was in January of 2004 and the tool box for the loco is sitting in the same place as it was two years ago.
