The 2248 is expected to return to service in 2023 according to Grapevine. And it looks like they’re finally making progress (slowly) with the steam locomotive. New boiler and a couple of other new parts such as air tanks. One day soon we’ll see steam in Grapevine again.

as of sunday 11/30/08 at 1:30 PM CST GVRR Steam Locomotive 2248 blew a piston on the firemans side of the locomotive and when this happened it also blew of the first connecting rod which links the piston to the center rod on the driving wheels and is non operational until further notice

Engine 2248 was placed back into service during December 2004 after receiving new steam chest valves and associated linkage. She has experienced a minor problem with foaming and the Grapevine Vintage Railroad is trying to correct this by adjusting the chemicals in the boiler water.

As of this date (12-28-04) the only day she is scheduled to operate for the remainder of December 2004 is Friday, December 31st and then only if a shipment of fuel oil is obtained by that time. Scheduled departure from Grapevine on Fridays is at 10 am arriving at the Fort Worth Stockyards at 11:30 am. Departure from Fort Worth at 2:30 PM and arriving back in Grapevine at 4:00 PM.

2248 is scheduled for her annual boiler inspection during January 2005 and will not operate again until at least February 2005. She is housed in a metal building adjacent to the turntable on the west side of main street in Grapevine, Texas, her base of operations for several years.

According to www.gvrr.com, Puffy has been taken out of operation for repairs as of May, 2004. I'll try to get a progress report. It was having some cylinder timing problems and requires custom fabrication of the replacement parts. Hope to see it on the rails again, soon.
