The locomotive actually entered service in the early years of WW2 with the then DRB as No. 44 381, that continued with the emerging DB (not DR) in 1949 in the same identity, later becoming No. 043 381-3, being oil fired. It was withdrawn from service on 06 October 1977 from Bw Rheine, being one of the last steam locomotives employed by the company. In 1978 it went to Metallwerk Sommer at Fürstenfeldbruck-Emmering and in 1986 to the BEM at Noerdlingen as No. 44 381 though still owned by Sommer.
