PK may be right, but my understanding was that Andy Muller borrowed, probably rented, 2839 because 425 was not done being rebuilt in time for the opening of his Blue Mountain & Reading railroad. As far as I know, he never owned it, but was negotiating with an investment group but they could not come to terms.

I took an excursion on a train pulled by this engine in 1979 or 1980. It went from Birmingham, Al to Chattanooga, TN and back. On the way back, the train stopped and let passengers off. It then backed up and did a "high" speed pass. I remember getting covered with coal debris and my parents and I stood only a few feet from the track as it passed. I was only 9 or 10 years old. Great memories!

This locomotive was to be used on excursions on the old Temple-Hamburg line of the Blue Mountain & Reading Railroad. The loco operated one trip from Hamburg to Temple but had to be pulled back by a diesel due to a mechanical failure of some sort. After that the engine sat on display at both South Hamburg yard and Temple station before being sold off.

I remember the 2839 in Northampton,it just so happens they were looking for someone to fill the tender with water, none of the local fire companies would do it,they got a hold of our fire co. in Trexlertown, and we filled it with our tanker.I was only 13 or so but i have good memories of that time. As we were invited to see it move for the first time since they restored it.

2839 was introduced to the Southern RR excursions in 1979 as a stand in for the troubled T&P 610. She was later retired the following year because she was not powerfull enough to run the steep grades where the excursions went.

The "Alco-Montreal Construction Number List" indicates that Construction Numbers 68951 through 68980; Road Numbers 2838 through 2842, 2834, 2820 through 2837 and 2843 through 2849, were shipped to the Canadian Pacific Railway" during the September through December time period of 1937. All of the units were 4-6-4's.
