W924 in service 1951 and withdrawn in 1971. Purchased 1978 by Great Southern Steam Association and put on display in Albany. It was later sold and moved to Alice Springs. A tourist railway was running trains on a 30 km section of the original Ghan route. W924 was overhauled and started running trains which were called the Old Ghan. For whatever reason this train no longer operates. W924 is now a static display along with other railway equipment at the Old Ghan Museum, 6 miles from Alice Springs

Sadly, the railway upon which 924 runs has been washed away in places and the locomotive is currently static only, until such time as the preservation group can find enough money to reinstate the railway.
