In 1982 she ran on the SRR as a stand in for the rest of C&O 2716's excursions that year. In 1984 when she turned 40, she ran a doubleheaded excursion train with N&W 611.

Nickel Plate Road S2 class 765 is lucky to still be around. When the Nickel Plate was retiring her the railroad was planning on saving sister engine 767 instead. Many fans of the 765 wanted to keep her aroand instead of 767. So before 765 would have been scrapped they switched the number plate with the two engines and relettered them so the real 765 would be saved and the real 767 would be sold for scrap.
