1 of 8 locos plinthed outside the enormous deserted station at Naypyitaw since at least 2012 Painted in lined green with an incongruous stove pipe chimney and fairy lights. So tasteful. Still there in 2019 and probably one of the 8 there in 2024

The ex United States Army Transportation Corps S160 Class 2-8-0 No. 701 (3278) ‘Franklin D Roosevelt’, is now in its final stages of its overhaul at the Churnet Valley Railway, as the locomotive has undergone another steam test and it has been fully painted into Longmoor Military Railway Blue livery and now has stainless steel lettering and numbering on the tender and cabsides.

The restoration on ex LMS 8F 2-8-0 No. 48173, at the Churnet Valley Railway is continuing slowly but maybe picking up soon with the overhaul of ex United States Army Transportation Corps S160 Class 2-8-0 No. 701 ‘Franklin D Roosevelt’, nearing completion.

The ex LMS Black Five 4-6-0 No. 45163, has now been moved onto the main workshops of Riley & Son Engineering Ltd. for its restoration to mainline standards to really progress now.

The overhaul on ex LNER Y7 0-4-0T No. 985, is now in its final stages as the boiler has been placed back onto the frames of the locomotive and work is now progressing with the remaining pipework and cladding to be fitted before the side tanks go back on and should be ready for steam tests soon.

The loco never went to Riley & Son Engineering Ltd, rather to Darlington. Northern Heritage Engineering, the successor to North Bay Engineering, have been undertaking the restoration. The new boiler and firebox have been completed a the full restoration is expected to be finalised in 2028.

This locomotive is not at Tweetsie anymore. One of the main shop guys told me many years ago that he had never seen or heard of this engine.

The only surviving part of the only remaining LNER Doncaster built LMS 8F 2-8-0 No. 48158, is the cab which is still intact and is currently in storage at Barry Island.

The newly restored ex South African Railways, 1897 Dubs & Co. built 6A Class 4-6-0 No. 473, has now relocated to its new home at Voorbaai depot in Mossel Bay in the Western Cape to operate steam tourist trains with Atlantic Rail in the area.
