locomotive might have one chance to be restored to operation. There’s a mile and a half on track it may run on.

I just had word that the boiler does NOT need replacement. Although the 2nd course is pitted, it can be easily fixed but the price is about 1.23 million dollars for a full 1472. the firebox sheets have been ultrasounded and are awaiting results.

Was NOT built for South Manchurian Railway, it was ordered for the Chicago Southern in 1904 (later MILW Road) they could not pay so they were sold to Northern Pacific in 1907. South Manchurian Railway was interested in the locomotives but NP got their money in 1st.

Work is still happening on 328 at a slow pace. Recently, they replaced the wood on the tender.

The boiler is badly rusted, so if 328 ever runs again, it will need a new boiler.

The information at the MTM's website has been fixed. It now confirms that the engine's status is "Restoration."

The website for this locomotive gives conflicting information on whether this engine is being restored once again to operating condition, or if it's being relegaged to static display.  Anyone in the know?

The "Alco-Rogers Construction Number List" indicates that Construction Numbers 37575 through 37584, Road Numbers 320 through 329, were shipped to the "Northern Pacific Railway" during February of 1907. All of the units were 4-6-0's.
