The newly overhauled ex New South Wales Government Railways 4-6-0 No 3265 "The Hunter", will be taking part in the 2026 Hunter Valley Steam Festival in the 18th and 19th of April 2026.

The overhaul on ex New South Wales Government Railways 4-6-0 No 3265 "The Hunter", has now been completed and the locomotive is now operational again and has just made a welcome return to traffic at the NSW Rail Museum and is soon to make a welcome return to the mainline network of New South Wales, Australia.

The ex New South Wales Government Railways 4-6-0 No 3265 "The Hunter", has now been withdrawn from service to undergo another mainline overhaul, which will take place at the NSW Rail Museum in Thirlmere.

Former New South Wales Government Railways No 3265 "The Hunter" was steam tested and moved under its own steam at Thirlmere following completion of its overhaul there.

NSWGR 3265 was originally numbered P584, becoming 3265 in 1924. In service from 1902 until 1968 travelling almost 1,750,000 miles. Was named HUNTER after one of the rivers the railway crosses between Sydney to Newcastle, still a very scenic run. It was preserved as part of Sydney Powerhouse museum collection. Stored first at Enfield and later Thirlmere. In the late 80s went to Eveleigh workshops for a 10 year renovation which included a new boiler.
