With testing now completed the 119 year old former New South Wales Government Railways 30 Class 4-6-0 No. 3001 will make her public detbut in steam at the NSW Rail Museum’s Thirlmere Festival of Steam on the 18th and 19th of March 2023.

The 119 year old former New South Wales Government Railways 30 Class 4-6-0 No. 3001 is now back in steam and operational again after completion of its extensive 3-year overhaul.

The former New South Wales Government Railways 30 Class 4-6-0 No. 3001 has been undergoing overhaul at the NSW Rail Museum at Thirlmere for the past few years and has reached a milestone as she was steamed for the first time since 1998. There is still quite a bit of work left to do before the locomotive enters service later in the year.

Originally built as 4-6-4T but converted to 4-6-0 after electrification of the Sydney suburban lines, and used on country branch lines. Superheated boiler. 3001T was restored to operation by the NSWRTM during the early 1980's but was withdrawn due to deteriorating mechanical condition in approximately 1997, and is now displayed as a static exhibit at Thirlmere in lined black livery.
