Ownership: WAGR W class No.908 was built in 1951 for the Western Australian Government Railways, entering service on the 5th of June. No.908 was withdrawn from service on the 17th of June in 1971. No.908 was sold to the Pinjarra Steam & Hills Railway Preservation Society (now the Hotham Valley Tourist Railway - HVTR) in 1979, arriving at the HVTR on the 11th of March. Specifications: Driver dia. is 4 ft. exact (1,219 mm), tractive effort is 21,760 lbf, boiler pressure is 200 p.s.i., cylinders are 16 in. (406 mm) × 24 in. (610 mm), and the gauge of No.908 is 3 ft. 6 in. (1,067 mm).

Still stored at Pinjarra, it is used as a spares donor for the operational pair of W class at Dwellingup. The photos should show how the sloping front of the cab exposes the least amount of boiler, reducing the amount of heat affecting the footplate staff. Also the tender was designed to improve visibility when operating tender first.

W908 in service 1951 and withdrawn in 1979. Purchased 1974 by Pinjarra Steam & Hills Preservation Society. Restored 1980. Some years now has been stored unserviceable. In the old shed just by Pinjarra railway station.
