Whilst no authority on southern hemisphere based locomotives or, indeed, wrecks I have this as O&K 719/1901 ? Equally I cannot quite remember its delivery which I believe was through the Central Mining & Tramway Appliances for Magnet Silver Mining co., Magnet Tramway, Tasmania as MAGNET No. 2. By 1910 it belonged to North Mount Farrell Co. at the same location, and was stored by 1924. In 1974 it belonged to the Van Dieman Light Railway Society, Evandale, Tasmania moving to Don in 1977. Only in 1992 did it go to the Ida Bay Railway, Lune River of the Van Dieman LRS.

New to the newly opened Magnet Tramway a 10 mile railway running from the Magnet mine in Waratah, Tasmania carrying silver and lead ore. O&K supplied a Mallet locomotive at the same time. A second Mallet arrived in 1907.

718's running number was most likely No 2. As some reports say No 1 was a Mallet. No 3 is O&K 2609 which is preserved at Bennett Brook near Perth WA.

In 1910 718 was sold to Tullah Tramway, working there until 1928 when the loco 'Wee Mary, arrived. I cannot find any working history after that.

In the early 2000s the frames of this locomotive ended up on small bogies in a siding at Lune River, Ida Bay Railway, Tasmania. When I visited 22 April 2017 they had been dumped along with the remains of JF 17732. Until the weeds cover them they can be seen near the sidings at the end of the line.
