BR Standard 4MT 2-6-0 No. 76084, is to be overhauled very soon, but not to mainline standards as their is not that demand for the locomotive on the mainline and along with the cost of fitting mainline safety equipment, as instead its owners the 76084 Locomotive Company Ltd. plan to overhaul the locomotive for use at the North Norfolk Railway and the heritage railway circuit instead. As already they are obtaining "competitive quotations" from several engineering firms for the overhaul of the locomotive.

76084 is owned by 76084 Locomotive Company Ltd. Contrary to the assertion by Mr Newman, the Board decides where the loco goes, which has to be in the best interest of the Shareholders. Our contract is renewed every two years.

No. 76084 will be staying put at the North Norfolk Railway for the foreseeable future as a North Norfolk Railway supporter has bought a key share in Standard 4MT. No. 76084 has a bright future as it will be available for more work on the mainline and more visits to other preserved railways around the UK. But the North Norfolk Railway is now its home for good.

After a short working life, this loco joined so many others in the scrapyard at Barry, South Wales in 1967. There it remained until purchase in 1983, when it was cosmetically restored for display in the owner's back garden! Sadly, the owner dies in 1997 and the loco was puchased from his estate with the long term aim of restoring it to full working order. There's a lot to do - the loco was stripped of most non ferrous components whilst at Barry, but a collection of vital parts is being assembled. The axleboxes have been overhauled and new tyres have been fitted.
