The North Yorkshire Moors Railway has launched an appeal to help raise £200,000 to help complete the overhaul of BR Standard 4MT 4-6-0 No. 75029 "The Green Knight", as the locomotive is in need of some boiler work along with needing a new firebox. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway hopes to have No. 75029 back in service by 2028, so it can be hauling trains again on both the NYMR and Network Rail’s Esk Valley Line to Whitby. Details for the appeal and how to help are on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway’s website and social media pages.

The overhaul on BR Standard 4MT 4-6-0 No. 75029 "The Green Knight" is also progressing at Grosmont shed as major boiler work is being carried out as a new copper tubeplate has been fitted alongside a new half copper door plate and half copper sides. It is expected that No. 75029 will be back in service at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway round the Summer or Autumn of 2022 after a chassis high bottom end overhaul.

Class 4 4-6-0 No.75029 was purchased from British Railways by the wildlife artist David Shepherd in 1967. The engine was originaly kept at the former Longmore Military Railway in Hampshire until evicted by local residents. David Shepherd then purchased the old station yard at Cranmore, on the former Cheddar Valley line in Somerset. There he built a new engine shed for No.75029 and his other loco Class 9F 2-10-0 No.92203. The line from Cranmore now operates as the East Somerset Railway but both locos have since moved elsewhere. This one is now located on the North York Moors Railway at Grosmont where its power can be put to greater use.

After overhaul at Bury, the loco is set to return to North Yorkshire soon. The big news is that there has been a change of ownership - the loco has been bought for the North Yorkshire Moors Railway by a benefactor and will thus add a very useful loco to the line's growing owned fleet.
