Contrary to what was previously noted here, No. 910 only departed the Stainmore Railway this past week. It has not moved to York, but rather to Locomotion in Shildon, where it is currently undergoing attention in their workshop.

When the North Eastern Railway was formed in1854, Edward Fletcher was appointed as Locomotive Superintendent. He would occupy that post for the next 28 years, and his classic engine is the '901' class, of which 910 is a Gateshead built example. They were, in their day, masters of the express passenger job and they were long lasting, too. 910 had a working life of 50 years, ending its days on the cross country Stainmore route across the Pennines to Tebay and Penrith from Darlington. It took part in the 50th, 100th and 150th anniversary celebrations for the opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway, and entered the LNER's York railway museum in 1925, where it remained until 1975 since when it has been on show in North Road museum, Darlington. However, it is now due to return to York for display in the National Railway Museum.
