I recently made the visit when the train was operational and road in the cab (it costs extra) it was worth it. The engine has been nicely restored to operational condition. However, they are still kind of low budget. It was a pleasure seeing this engine in operation.

3415 passed the FRA inspection Dec. 2, 08 and was operated to the A&SV depot for public unveiling. There is still much work to be done this winter. First run is to be in May.

I learned that 3415 has steamed up last weekend for the first in years. I think she will be running in 2009.

She was test fired a few days ago. They are just waiting for the FRA inspection to occur, most likely in December.

#3415 was moved out of the park in 1996 and has been sitting at the Abilene and Smoky Hill railroad depot near Downtown ever since. They were hoping to restore the locomotive to operating condition to pull excursions on the A&SH,but they had no money to restore it. The idea of the engine pulling the tourist train was just a dream... UNTIL NOW. The railroad just recieved a grant from the state of Kansas to restore the engine to operation. It should be in service by 2006 or 2007.
