The ex GWR 4200 Class 2-8-0T No. 4270, could be going to the Kent & East Sussex Railway at Tenterden in Kent, for overhaul as a deal with its owner Jeremy Hoskin will see it be overhauled as a joint venture between the 4253 Locomotive Company Ltd and the Rother Valley Railway Heritage Trust.

The ex GWR 4200 Class 2-8-0T No. 4270 has now left the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway and is now being relocated to the One:One Collection (Locomotive Storage Ltd.) at Margate in Kent for display and undercover storage until such time it can be overhauled.

Having worked a bit longer then expected into the Christmas season of 2022 and now having come to the end of its boiler ticket, the ex GWR 4200 Class 2-8-0T No. 4270 is leaving the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway and being relocated to the One:One Collection (Locomotive Storage Ltd.) at Margate in Kent for display and undercover storage along with other locomotives and rolling stock there awaiting their time for overhaul.

Having worked its final trains at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway over the weekend during their Mixed Traction gala, the ex GWR 4200 Class 2-8-0T No. 4270 has now been withdrawn from service having come to the end of her 10 year boiler ticket and is now awaiting overhaul.

Soon to be withdrawn from service for its 10 year overhaul at the end of the year, the 100 year old ex GWR 4200 Class 2-8-0T No. 4270 will be making her last Gala appearence at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway during their Mixed Traction gala on the 29th and 30th of October 2022. After this the locomotive will continue in service over the winter and Christmas season before coming out of service at the end of the 2022 season.

4270 has been announced as the first visiting locomotive for the North Norfolk Railways Bank Holiday summer gala on 26th-28th August. She was supposed to visit for the spring gala in 2020, but obviously this was cancelled.

The former GWR 4200 Class 2-8-0T No. 4270 is visiting the North Norfolk Railway for their Summer Bank Holiday Steam Gala Weekend from the 27th to 29th of August 2022. It will be one of two visiting steam locomotives for the Gala then.

The GWR 4200 Class 2-8-0T No. 4270 is the second visiting locomotive at the North Norfolk Railway for their Spring Steam Gala Weekend on the 27th to 29th of March 2020. Which will be a Great Western heavy freight in East Anglia theme this year there.

GWR 4200 Class 2-8-0T No. 4270 will visit the Epping Ongar Railway in Essex for their Summer Steam Gala from the 7th to 9th of June 2019. As No. 4270 has replaced No. 419 as she is now not available.

No. 4270 is currently at the East Lancashire Railway where its being extra motive power for their Santa Specials and Mice Pie Specials over the Christmas season. The loco had stayed after taking part in their Autumn Steam Gala in October.

Having had its repairs completed at LNWR Heritage at Crewe No. 4270 is now back at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway to enter traffic this weekend.

No. 4270 is currently up at LNWR Heritage at Crewe for some work being carried out there. It will return to the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway when work is completed.

This locomotive was purchased from the Swansea Vale Railway and moved to Toddington on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway in July 2003.  Preliminary restoration to working order has already begun.
