Having not worked a train since the end of 2022, ex LMS Princess Coronation Class Pacific 4-6-2 No. 6233 "Duchess of Sutherland" is undergoing an intermediate overhaul at its base at the Princess Royal Locomotive Trust base at their West Shed at the Midland Railway - Butterley, as she is having new driving wheel tyres fitted along with work on the firebox and some other work that will give No. 6233 fresh new mainline and boiler ticket. The Princess Royal Locomotive Trust, hope to have No. 6233 "Duchess of Sutherland" back out on the mainline and heritage railway circuit in 2024.

The visit of the ex LMS Princess Coronation Class Pacific 4-6-2 No. 6233 "Duchess of Sutherland" to the Severn Valley Railway for their Autumn Steam Gala from the 16th to 19th of September 2021 is now sadly off. This is due to a problem with the driving-wheel axle boxes. Some of the metal bearing surface had cracked and become loose, necessitating replacement. Which unfortunately, this is not going to be completed in time for the event then which has resulted in the locomotive being withdrawn from the Gala line up.

Work on 46233 "Duchess of Sutherland" is going to take a bit longer then first thought. As on further investigation, it has been found that 21 of the 40 flue tubes are cracked. So the Princess Royal Locomotive Trust have decided to take the opportunity to carry out additional major work on the boiler to enable 46233 to gain a new boiler certificate now, rather than waiting until it is needed in 2021. The Duchess should be completed and ready for action around June/ July 2018. By then the locomotive will be repainted into LMS Crimson Lake livery as 6233 again.
