According to Trains Magazine November 2016, this is the oldest American-built, horizontal-boiler steam locomotive in the United States. Camden & Amboy #1 “John Bull” is the oldest steam locomotive in the United States, but it was built in the United Kingdom and shipped across the Atlantic Ocean and assembled in the US. Three Baltimore & Ohio locomotives are also older, but they are vertical boilers. Therefore, Natchez & Hamburg Railroad “Mississippi” is the oldest existing, standard-looking (horizontal boiler), American-built, locomotive in the United States.

I am interested in anything you may have just across the Adams/Franklin County line in Franklin County.  I own property in this area (part of old Sunnyside Plantation) and am interested in the history of the area.  Thank you. RM

I have photographed close to a dozen plate maps of acquired property of above railroad.  I have traced parts of the track by foot and the rest by maps up to the Franklin Cty, MS. line.  My coverage is in Adams Cty.  I am developing a slide program on the line.
