One of 261 DD class locomotives built by 8 different makers for Victoria Railways. Built at Newport Workshops, this loco started life in 1914 numbered DD876. Renumbered to DD503 and then DD776. After some improvements became class D2 776. In 1941 rebuilt with super heated boiler similar to the new K class, ecoming D3 619. Originally the class was designed to operated mainline passenger trains, but soon displaced by more powerful locos. Their light axle load made them suitable for branch line working. After working for nearly 50 years, 619 was withdrawn in 1963.

It was cosmetically restored by Victoria Railways and displayed outside of Bendigo railway workshops in 1974. In the 1990s a plan to overhaul this loco for use on the main line at Bendigo was started but unfortunately came to nothing. Possibly the usual reasons of high cost plus the difficulty of finding skilled volunteers & workshops. In 2011 was moved to Maldon and is presently stored there.
