QJ 6991 was built new in 1985 at Datong Works and had worked on China Rail’s best known mainline at Yebaishou from 1992 until 1996, it later moved to work round Fuxin from 2000 to 2001, when the Jitong Railway picked it up in 2002. QJ 6991 survived right to the end of steam on the Jitong Railway, being among the last 20 active steam locomotives working on the section of the Jitong Railway between Daban to Chabuga right to the very end of steam in December 2005. As of 2023 6991 is still at Daban Depot on display with ten other QJ Steam Locomotives as a reminder of the last great steam show in the world there from 1995 to 2005.

QJ 6991 was also among the last steam locomotives working till the very end of steam on the Jitong Railway in 2005 and survives today. Which after a cosmetic restoration in the late 2000’s is on static display at Daban depot where she remains today.
