This locomotive was built in 1896 as one of 2 locomotives to be sent to the Kawagoe Railway. The duo were derivatives of the 2 cylindered Class 600/A8 of JGR. This example was numbered 3, the other was number 4. Both engines were called the K2 type. Both trains were later taken over by Seibu Railway through a merger , renumbered 5 and 6 , and used on the Tamagawa Line , before being leased to the major Tobu Railway in their final years (late 50s or early 60s). No. 5 (formerly No. 3) returned to Seibu Railway in 1965 while 6 (ex 4) was scrapped.

Robin R Beck reports that the loco was displayed in front of Seibu Railway Hoya HQ. Seems that the building is now flats. The loco may be still be displayed at event in a siding, which have happened in the past.
