The #2 remains in regular service, and was recently joined by a newly-built steam locomotive, #5.

Locomotive is currently operating weekend service on BJWRR. It is still quite tired. Unfortunately, the past 10 years were spent entirely on reboilering with no work whatsoever to the running gear.

This engine is currently running revenue service once again.  Please change status to operational.  I rode behind it on Memorial Day Weekend, 2006.   It is in excellent shape and runs very fast.   My father rode this train when it was in Billy Jones' orchard in 1960.

Status is once again (after 11 years) operational. Will go into revenue weekend service soon. Weekday trains will continue to be pulled by the diesel.

Venice Railway #1 also survived the scrap line. For a time, it operated in Whittier Narrows Park in East Los Angeles. Currently, it remains in storage along with some original Venice Railway passenger cars in a Southern California garage. Unlike the heavily modified BJWRR #2, the #1 retains most of its as-built Venice Rwy characteristics.

A new boiler has been built for BJWRR #2. After being in the BJWRR shop for several years now, it is planned that she will return to service in the near future.

I dug up some more information on this old Venice Ry. locomotive. The engine weight is 8,000 Pounds and tender weight is 3,127 Pounds. 150 Gallons of water and 75 gallons of oil is carried in the original tender and this locomotive has a working steam pressure of 175 Pounds. Built in 1905 to the specifications of John J. Coit by the Johnson Machine Works in Los Angeles.

Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad No. 2 was built in aproximately 1903 or 1904. It was designed by John L. Coit and made by the Johnston Machine and Foundry Co. in Los Angeles. From 1904 until the mid 1920`s this locomtive operated on the Venice Miniatuure Railway before being sold for scrap with her sister locomotive No.1. The 2 spot somehow ended up in an Oakland scrapyard where Billy Jones purchased her and restored her to operating condition with a new whaleback tender because her original tender was lost.
