The locomotive was originally built for the German Heersfeldbahn, parked in tye Erzatzpark, Berlin as No. HF 2372. From here its first employment was at the Sophia-Jacoba Mine, Hückelhoven, West Germany as their No. II until retirement in March 1965. Later that year it went to family Freund, Hamburg possibly as an intermediary for Lincoln Park Zoo, Chicago, Illinois, USA where it was converted from its original build of 0-8-0 to 2-8-0. and where it was until 1998, apparently only working until Q1968.

It was #1 on the Brookfield Zoo RR.  I believe it was rebuilt from an 0-8-0(T?) to a 2-8-0 in 1969.

This engine is a narrow gauge 36" 2-8-0 along with a Sandley Bult.4-4-2 36"  was given to the Brookfield Zoo in the 1960"s ran into the 70's .The zoo lost interest and pulled up the tracks  now the locomotives are in storage in a Cook county Forrest Preserve garage. I've tried to get more info.on them and I get  different stories from other people.
