I heard a while ago all they would have to do is tac weld the rods together to find out there length then go to a foundry and have new ones cast and machined. The other thing is why not put it on a flatcar and send it to Ponoma Ca and park it by the UP 9000.

The piston rods have been cut.  Cosmetically the engine looks good.  It is stored inside of what's left of the roundhouse in Cheyenne.  I have seen this locomotive in person and talked with the steam crew about it.  It's not in good shape mechanically and due to it's design it is not economical to operate.  It's designed to pull heavy loads at slow speeds.  Not pull fast passenger trains.

I have talked to UP on many ocations and they have no interest in giving this locomotive up to anyone, Thay are going to just let her rot i guess.

After reading a web site i stand corrected. The rods were cut and they say that it would be a hard restoration.

I have talked to up on this locomotive. There are no plans at this time for this locomotive. They plan on letting her sit right ware she is. From what they tell me and from the pictures I have seen she is in fair shap. The rods are not cut. She was cosmedicly restored for a rail show they had a few years back.
