The locomotive has come along way in order to get into operation. As of this writing they fired it up last weekend and this weekend when I went they were putting the pistons/side rods back on. The FRA inspection is next month and should it pass it will most likely run this fall during a special event. The person I talked with though said nothing is official yet.

The locomotive has been fired up again since 2000!! Howver, there were issues with the atomizer to convvert the air into steam. But it should operate by 2015

Unfortunatly, There is a LOT more work to be finished. Work includes running gear, frame and a brand new tender. August of 2011 to Jan of 2012 might be the year steam returns to N Freedom.

I talked to the manager saying she will have her hydro-tested in late December or early January and will hopefully be running in July of 2011.

Status still needs to be changed to "Restoration."

Last Operating during Snow Train 2000, Saginaw Timber / Polson Logging # 2 is on the list of the top three locomotives that are being restored to operation on Mid Continent's roster. I believe that it is the second in line. Status should be changed to "Restoration."

More information regarding work that needs to be completed on # 2 and what has been accomplished may be found on Mid Continent's website. Here is the URL to Mid Continent's Steam Status page:  http://www.1385.org/steamstatus2.html

Recently, #2's boiler was sent to Milwaukee Boiler for "further inspection and repairs." A March 14, 2006 article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel told that indeed, # 2's boiler is being restored. Here is the URL to the article:

This locomotive is near operational.  Her overhaul needs a little bit more work and she will be back in service.  She is to return to service in the summer earlyest and the end of the year latest.
