I was also at the Grand Canyon Railway this past week. Apparently, the engine had to be sent back to the Grand Canyon due to the tie downs not being up to BNSF standards, and having to be re-done. It was all better when I got there, and the engine was waiting to be re-picked up by BNSF.

BNSF has approved the load so SP&S No. 539 will be moving in the next few days from Williams, AZ to Kalama, WA.

engine is NOT being restored, as the heartless people in charge of the Grand Canyon Railway decided to cease steam operations. All diesel now. Not sure what will happen to 539..

This locomotive was sold to an individual for $1. He believes the restoration will cost around $100,000.00 Maybe if he multiplied that by 7 or 8!

The "Alco-Brooks Construction Number List" indicates that Construction Numbers 57942 through 57961, Road Numbers 1750 through 1769, were shipped to the "Northern Pacific Railway Co." during September of 1917. All of the units were 2-8-2's and had a "Specified" total weight of 328,000 pounds (This is not necessarily the "Actual" total weight).
