as of 2025 the locomotive is covered in rust.

Although 503 will not be scrapped, the city will not let her leave now. She shall remain in the city and the money donated to save her will be used in the transporting of NKP 587 to Ravenna, KY.

The gofundme has reached its goal of $65,000 to preserve 503, the engine has to leave the display, by March 1st

She is almost safe, after a price raise by 15k, she only needs about 4500 more to be safe.

I apologize for my first comment. At the time there was no grassroots effort and I thought the locomotive was already in the process of being scrapped. Please donate to the cause, and I wish Mr. Sobczynski success!

The Royal Palm Railway Experience have offered a home for Louisiana & Arkansas RR No. 503 where it will be restored to full working order if the funds to save are raised. Details for the Go Fund Me appeal is on there facebook page.

This locomotive will be scrapped soon. The city of Port Arthur is concerned that recent natural disasters striking the Texas coast may have caused the engine to contaminate its surroundings. This one is a goner.
