On January 8, 2019, the locomotive got stuck in a snowdrift shortly before Brocken train station and stopped. The recovery of the locomotive took three days. The involuntary stay in the snow did not cause any frost damage, and the locomotive has been nicknamed “Ice Queen” since the incident.

Originally built for the DR Harz system, but delivered as No. 99 234 to the Gera-Pforten Railway where it worked for a couple of year’s until being employed on the Iisfeld-Schönbrunn line. From 1973 it was fully on the Harz system, later as No. 99 7234 which became, from late 1992/early 1993 DB as EDP No. 099 144-8, almost immediately then HSB with a former DR identity.
