Although built as DR No. 99 233 for the Harz system, it originally worked, along with No. 99 232, until 1958 on the Gera-Pforten line, then in the Harz and later as No. 99 7233-2. It later became, at the end of 1992, DB with EDP No. 099 143-0 until in 1993 joining the HSB in a DR identity, It is usually based in a shed at the intermediary Bf of Ilfeld.

ILFORD posted this note on 4th April 2018: This loco 99-7231 and 99-7233 are locked in a shed at Ilfeld, they both have original frames. The HSB usually open the shed doors for public viewing once a year.
